
What you and the Founders have in common
This is the U.S.A.’s 250 year anniversary.
That is a Big Deal.
If you read the Declaration of Independence, it reads almost like a poem.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.
56 delegates from 13 colonies got together in 1776 in a sweltering building in Philadelphia. Reports indicate there was a lot of bickering and that the delegates were pretty much a bunch of radical nonconformists.
But they all agreed upon certain things:
- The tyranny and abuse the colonialists experienced from those who ruled over them. (England)
- The opening line above – “that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
In certain respects, I have to compare those men back then with the chiropractors and other independent health professionals of today.
For example, among the delegates were:
- Franklin — Printer, inventor, self-made. Deeply irreverent. Did not fit any mold.
- Jefferson — Brilliant, contradictory, restless thinker. Not a crowd-pleaser.
- Adams — Cranky, blunt, famously difficult. Cared nothing for being liked.*
- Tom Paine was there too. He wasn’t even a delegate. From what I can tell, he crashed the party and was loud, outspoken, angry, and uncompromising! **
I am featuring these men because, honestly, they remind me of you and the many doctors and business owners we have worked with over the last nearly 40 years!
All different, but all shared common GOALS – Liberty.
I can’t help but see the connection between what these brave men fought for and what the brave men and women continue to fight for today in chiropractic and independent, integrative health care professions.
We’ve been rooting for you since we started, and will continue to do so.
