That corporations would employ skilled managers with their MBAs from prestigious universities that effectively applied administrative technology to nurture their companies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-c70th\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 WkT0MK _1FoOD _3M0Fe T3Ond1 WkT0MK public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">Nah, it\u2019s not like that.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-b9i0d\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 WkT0MK _1FoOD _3M0Fe T3Ond1 WkT0MK public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">A research study was conducted by Nicholas Bloom* and others aimed at determining how effectively management procedures were being used in U.S. companies. They found that only 15% of U.S. companies scored above a 4 on a 5-point scale. More than 30% scored a three or lower. Companies outside of the U.S. scored much worse.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-1lrnb\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 WkT0MK _1FoOD _3M0Fe T3Ond1 WkT0MK public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">Management is primarily personality driven \u2013 a little like politics and show business. And sometimes, the mafia. Some companies do well because there is a dynamic genius at the helm. Others do well because they were there at the right time. Others appear to do well because of the money they borrow, steal, or collude with government regulators.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-fuect\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 WkT0MK _1FoOD _3M0Fe T3Ond1 WkT0MK public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">I know some very successful chiropractors who are good managers. But they were good mostly because of their temperament and not because of their conscious use of management techniques. <\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-4b74b\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 WkT0MK _1FoOD _3M0Fe T3Ond1 WkT0MK public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">Unfortunately, most management focuses on supervision. It is a form of spectator-ism and policing. Like watching robots on an assembly line and reprimanding errors and deviations. <\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-inge\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 WkT0MK _1FoOD _3M0Fe T3Ond1 WkT0MK public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">Good management focuses on improvement. First, keep things working, then how can <em>we all<\/em> improve it? It is servant based.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-doo3n\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 WkT0MK _1FoOD _3M0Fe T3Ond1 WkT0MK public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">In my book, <em>Goal Driven Business<\/em>, I cover this as part of the Goal Driven System.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-5am6h\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 WkT0MK _1FoOD _3M0Fe T3Ond1 WkT0MK public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\"><strong>For practical purposes, management has two different functions: <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-7gh6r\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 WkT0MK _1FoOD _3M0Fe T3Ond1 WkT0MK public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">1. Keep doing what works. <\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-1rjb3\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 WkT0MK _1FoOD _3M0Fe T3Ond1 WkT0MK public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">2. Continually look at how the procedures and systems could be improved. <\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-no2a\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 WkT0MK _1FoOD _3M0Fe T3Ond1 WkT0MK public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">If it worked yesterday, you should do it today and also tomorrow. <\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-3ofne\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 WkT0MK _1FoOD _3M0Fe T3Ond1 WkT0MK public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">Then, improve it \u2013 little by little.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-3cuor\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 WkT0MK _1FoOD _3M0Fe T3Ond1 WkT0MK public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">If you want to make a big change, when the entrepreneurial spirit hits you, do a trial run first. Don\u2019t <em>disrupt the systems that are working.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-522df\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 WkT0MK _1FoOD _3M0Fe T3Ond1 WkT0MK public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">A good number of practice problems occur for one reason:<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-87m67\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 WkT0MK _1FoOD _1oG79 VrUyH9 WkT0MK public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\"><strong>You stopped doing what worked!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-41fa4\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 WkT0MK _1FoOD _3M0Fe T3Ond1 WkT0MK public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">This applies to the front desk, patient accounts, new patient onboarding, team management, and marketing procedures. <\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-eltus\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 WkT0MK _1FoOD _3M0Fe T3Ond1 WkT0MK public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">If it worked once, it would probably work again. Just improve it if it is outdated \u2013 and if that doesn\u2019t work, revert to what worked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-55are\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 WkT0MK _1FoOD _3M0Fe T3Ond1 WkT0MK public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">I know &#8211; your workdays can get boring and sometimes you want to go and chase the <em>shiny things.<\/em> Fine. But keep doing what works until something proves itself to be better. <\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-8dqbe\" class=\"mm8Nw _1j-51 WkT0MK _1FoOD _3M0Fe T3Ond1 WkT0MK public-DraftStyleDefault-block-depth0 fixed-tab-size public-DraftStyleDefault-text-ltr\"><span class=\"_2PHJq public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr\">I will be teaching a management course later this year.
