I will tell you why, but first, let\u2019s define our terms:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Brand marketing<\/em> is different from <em>direct response<\/em><\/strong> marketing. Brand marketing focuses on generating awareness of your office, while direct response aims to generate new customers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A smaller business with limited resources<\/strong> must focus on direct marketing rather than brand marketing. This is especially important when you begin.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Once your practice is maturing,<\/strong> your patients know you. You are the brand. You probably don\u2019t plan on growing the business any further so there doesn\u2019t seem to be any real need to promote your brand in the community.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But now there is.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #008080;\">More competition for patients<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Franchise health companies<\/strong> are stepping up their activities. For example, the Joint Chiropractic, which filed with the SEC for around $35 million 10 years ago, and is a public traded company, acquired an additional 7.5 million in funding just two years ago. Their website says they have more than 600 locations, and I have seen their marketing activities in Wisconsin.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Physical therapy franchises<\/strong> are spreading, such as FYZICAL. According to its website, it has grown to more than 448 locations in 7 years as of 2021. In addition, acupuncture franchises, massage franchises, and dental franchises are on the rise.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Competition for Qualified Employees<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><strong>You can also see increased competition<\/strong> if you have been recruiting doctors, providers, or support personnel lately. Job seekers can acquire a startling amount of information about you and what it is like for employees to work with you. They are interested in your culture, benefits, and values \u2013 which are all part of your brand.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #008080;\">What Makes You Different and Better<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><strong>It could be said that your brand is<\/strong>: what makes you stand apart &#8212; and better \u2013 from all the comparable alternatives.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It is your Unique Selling Proposition.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A well-defined and promoted brand<\/strong> will help you:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Generate pride and loyalty in your patient base<\/li>\n<li>Encourage more patient referrals<\/li>\n<li>Improve team morale<\/li>\n<li>Generate referrals from external referral sources<\/li>\n<li>Improve marketing recruitment efforts for top employee talent<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #008080;\">How to Define Your Brand<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Once again,<\/strong> it all goes back to goals. (Doesn\u2019t everything?)<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the mission of your office?<\/strong> What are its values? What are its valuable outcomes?<\/p>\n<p><strong>This Is a Distillation Of Your Story<\/strong>: why you are a doctor, why you are in business, and what brings you joy daily?<\/p>\n<p>Answer this for yourself, and then ask your staff:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>What makes us special?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Survey a few of your patients:<\/strong> what makes us special from other providers? Why did you choose us?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Your brand <em>showcases<\/em> all this into an identity<\/strong> that people can know, like, and trust.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It can be somewhat symbolized<\/strong> with a logo and tag line, like the Nike \u201cshoosh,\u201d and the tag line: \u201cJust Do It.\u201d It can be represented in your newsletters, your office decor and cleanliness, the appearance of you and your team, and in all aspects of your promotions on social media.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But primarily, it must be demonstrated<\/strong> each day by you and your team living up to your values, your commitment to your mission, and providing world-class service and outcomes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The world is moving faster,<\/strong> and we all have to work to stay ahead.
